I had two shoeboxes full of old receipts; I used to just toss all my old receipts in there, until they filled up and I realized that I will never need to retrieve any of them, for any reason, ever.
I ran them all through the shredder, even though that was probably totally unnecessary. I just don't want some other weirdo to find them all at once and start a blog deconstructing my shopping habits.
